The Vision for A Family of Faith
The vision for A Family of Faith is strong Catholic Families in which children learn the joys of following Christ and the truths of their faith through the witness of Christian life given by their parents.
Structure of A Family of Faith
A Family of Faith consists of catechesis for the whole family. The program is comprised of both Parent Meetings and Community Meetings.
Parent Meetings
The parent meeting will walk through the topic and activities for the coming month. Parents will be equipped with the resources and knowledge needed to confidently explore that month's lesson and catechize their children within their home.
“Parents are the principal and first educators of their children.” (CCC 1653)
Children will meet in a catechist lead lesson during the parent meeting.
Children in non-sacrament years will be introduced to that month's focus points while children in Sacrament years will prepare to receive their Sacraments.
In your Domestic Church
Between meetings, parents teach their children the Catholic Faith in their home.
"Parents have the mission of teaching their children to pray and to discover their vocation as children of God." (CCC 2226)
Community Meetings
The purpose of the Community Meetings are to encourgae accountability and foster friendships. These Community Meetings will vary on date, time, and location. They can be viewed on your program calendar and will be announced both in your lesson and in the A Family of Faith monthly newsletter.
Program Fee
$50.00 per family. This includes Sacrament preparation.
You can make your payment at the main office at Our Lady of the Rosary in Greenhills or Our Lady of the Valley in Reading.
(No family will be denied participation because of a financial hardship.)
Youth Ministry Meetings
Youth Ministry meets on the second and fourth Sundays of the month at 7:00 pm. Meetings take place in the Youth Room, located in the lower level of the Our Lady of the Valley Parish Center. The entrance is on the west side of the building.
All eighth graders and high school students are welcome. The meetings provide an opportunity for young adults to learn about the Church, talk, eat, play and pray with peers and caring faith-filled adults.
